RISC hosted its annual knowledge-sharing international conference “WATS Forum 2019” on 3 June at Centara Grand

The Research & Innovation for Sustainability Center (RISC), a non-profit unit of Magnolia Quality Development Corporation Limited (MQDC), hosted its annual knowledge-sharing international conference “WATS Forum 2019” on 3 June at Centara Grand at CentralWorld, Bangkok.
WATS Forum 2019 presented the latest innovations and ideas in four keynotes namely; Wellbeing, Architecture, Technology, and Sustainability, in their environmental, social, and economic aspects.

Network of 30 organizations from the public, private, financial, and educational sector has joined hands to create a new incubator platform for startups called InnoSpace

 A network of 30 organizations from the public, private, financial, and educational sector has joined hands to create a new incubator platform for startups called InnoSpace (Thailand) Co., Ltd., with a combined investment of 640 million baht. InnoSpace aims to create an ecosystem that fosters rise of deep tech startups from beginner businesses to the more advanced international “UNICORN” entrepreneurs (large startups that are worth more than USD 1 trillion). The goal for 2019 is to create no less than 50 startups.

Grab has signed MoU with partners from both government and private sector organisations to launch Grab TukTuk Electric in Chiang Mai

Grab has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with partners from both government and private sector organisations to launch Grab TukTuk Electric in Chiang Mai, establishing the very first Chiang Mai Smart Mobility Alliance Network. This public-private partnership aims to reduce the use of private vehicles in Chiang Mai by 35 per cent in five years, contributing to a less-polluted, less-congested and smarter city. This will also help increase the efficiency of public transportation in Chiang Mai city and is part of Thailand’s 4.0 policy to increase digitalisation in Thailand.

Ophthalmologists at Siriraj Hospital have successfully used stem cell transplants to help restore the sight of 75 partially and completely blind patients for the first time.

Ophthalmologists at Siriraj Hospital have successfully used stem cell transplants to help restore the sight of 75 partially and completely blind patients for the first time. Siriraj Hospital had successfully applied “CLET” (Cultivated limbal epithelial transplantation) and “COMET” (Cultivated oral mucosal epithelial transplantation) stem-cell treatments while SLET (Simple limbal epithelial transplantation) has been used to reconstruct the patients' damaged corneas since 2014. These combined treatments have helped restore the sight of 86 eyes from 75 patients.

The National Research Council of Thailand and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation revealed that Thai researchers and inventors have won more than 150 awards from two international platforms, namely (1) "The 47th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva" in Geneva, Switzerland and (2) "The 30th International Invention, Innovation & Technology Exhibition" in Malaysia.

CIMB Thai Bank is looking use facial recognition technology to make the identity verification process of customers more accurate. Facial recognition system will be used to verify the identity of customers who are applying to open a deposit account, in addition to face-to-face verification. CIMB Thai Bank is also requesting permission from the Bank of Thailand to apply facial recognition to other services of CIMB, including applying for loans and opening new accounts via digital channels.

The Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research (TISTR) will be working with CP-All to research the potential properties of Thai holy basil to protect the liver against cancer and reduce fatty cells. The Thai holy basil plant extract will be produced from commonly discarded parts of the plant. Thai holy basil is an important ingredient in Thai cuisine. The part of the plant that is used are the leaves, while the flowers and stems are often discarded.

 The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) revealed that it has started to survey Khon Kaen province as one of the sites to organise a "Smart City Thailand Roadshow" event, one among a series of events which DEPA plans organize throughout the country. Provinces are encouraged to partake in the activities as well as projects to gradually transform the provinces into "smart cities."
