BOI has approved Mitsubishi Motors’ (Thailand) proposal for the production of PHEV in Thailand

The meeting of the Board of Investment (BOI) has approved Mitsubishi Motors’ (Thailand) proposal for the production of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) in Thailand, where the vehicles are said to be assembled with parts produced locally. Investment budget for the project is expected at 3.13 billion baht. The project will include plans to further develop parts manufacturers, as well as future investments in the production of PHEV batteries and construction of charging stations in Thailand.

30 solar cell producers and retailers in Thailand to prepare for upcoming business opportunities in the field of alternative energy

The Minister of Energy has informed 30 solar cell producers and retailers in Thailand to prepare for upcoming business opportunities in the field of alternative energy, as the field of solar energy is growing continuously due to the initiation of the Power Development Plan (PDP 2018), the 10,000 megawatts public solar project, and the construction of a 2,725 megawatts floating solar farm project, which has been planned for 2018 until 2037.

EGAT has signed MoU with IEAT on the study and development of the Energy Smart City.

 The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) on the study and development of the Energy Smart City. The aim of the cooperation is to develop a model for an energy service provider within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) industrial estate. The project is now in its initial stage, which involves the studying of the Rayong power plant and how to transform it into an industrial estate.

The Ministry of Industry is developing a QR code payment system to be used for the annual fee collection for Tier 2 and 3 factories, which are located in other provinces. The ultimate aim of the Ministry is lift the work of the government into Smart Office 4.0, which began with the use of a Bar Code system to store document. At the same time, the Ministry will improve customer service by incorporating the use of QR code payment system.

JBIC has reassured Thailand of its commitment to support a 224-billion-baht high speed railway project connecting the three main airports.

The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) has reassured Thailand of its commitment to support a 224-billion-baht high speed railway project connecting the three main airports in the country. The pledge came after JBIC governor had met with PM Prayut at the Government House. Moreover, JBIC is ready to extend its support to the smart city project in Chachoengsao province, as well as to Thai SMEs to help in improving  production capabilities.

FIBO estimated the demands for robotic technology and automation system in Thailand will be as high as 400-500 billion baht

The Institute of Field Robotics (FIBO) estimated the demands for robotic technology and automation system in Thailand will be as high as 400-500 billion baht. Meanwhile, the manufacturing sector has forecast that joint investments with foreign investors will reach around 20-30 billion baht, particularly in the EEC zone. The report coincides with the International Federation of Robotics’(IFR) prediction that the Thai automation and robotics industries will see a growth of about 19 per cent in 2019, the highest growth rate in ASEAN and the fourth highest in the world.

Bank of Ayudhya (Krungsri) is the first bank in Thailand to introduce facial recognition called, “The electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) technology”, which is used for identity verification when opening bank accounts. The e-KYC technology enables an upgrade of the bank's verification process and accuracy, raising it to be in line with international standards.

The Institute of Dermatology under the Department of Medical Services has launched the “On LINE 4.0 Dermatology Clinic” campaign, which is in line with the institute’s Service Plan policy of the year. The service will allow patients to gain access to dermatological services without the need to travel to hospitals. At present, a total of 3,000 doctors from health districts 1-13 have registered to join campaign to give consultations to patients via LINE.

As part of the “Protein Crystallisation in space for Anti-Malaria Drug Development” project, the National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC) and the Geo-Informatics Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) have jointly worked together to deliver a protein compound to the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), located in Tsukuba City of Japan.
