PTT Global Chemical worked with Wat Chak Daeng to introduce the recycling project which is making monks’ robes from plastic bottles

PTT Global Chemical in collaboration with Wat Chak Daeng, has introduced a new and unique recycling project —making monks’ robes from plastic bottles. The temple has been recycling and sorting waste for about 13 years. However, plastic bottles were only collected to be sold later on, because the temple didn’t have the expertise to transform plastic into textiles. It wasn’t until PTTGC visited the temple last year and provided the technological knowhow of turning PET bottles into eco-fabrics to the temple. This project has not only helped raise awareness about the circular economy concept, but it has also created a jobs for people in the community, especially disabled people. Although the price of eco-fabric monk robes is five times higher than normal, the demand for the eco-friendly textile is still high. This is because people want to support the eco-friendly saffron-coloured robes that can’t be found anywhere else except Wat Chak Daeng.
