The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has announced the list of Bangkok Cultural Treasures 2018

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has announced the list of Bangkok Cultural Treasures 2018, where candidates were selected from the 50 districts across Bangkok, in an effort to preserve the city’s cultural heritage. The Bangkok Cultural Treasures 2018 include the following: 

1. The Scripture of Ancient Cats from Anongkaram Temple, Klong San district: An ancient text written in poetic formats with illustrations detailing 13 species of ancient Thai cats, including 7 species which are auspicious and 6 which are inauspicious. 



 

2. Ta-yae Mon from Bang Khun Thien district: A style of folksong of the Mon people that contains both didactic and entertaining elements. 
 


 

3. The Chak Phra Festival of Nang Chi Chotikaram Temple in Phasi Charoen district: An annual celebration to mark the end of the Buddhist Lent season, where the relics of Buddha are paraded in a spectacular boat procession. 


 

4. Baan Mor Whan Aromatic Medicine from Phra Nakhon district: A traditional herbal medicine based on the recipe of Wan Rodmuang, a traditional Thai physician, used to nourish the body as well as to cure headaches, nausea, and fatigue 


 

5. Baan Bat Alms Bowls from Pom Prab Satru Pai district: Metal bowls produced at Baan Bat which were used by Buddhist monks to receive alms. This is the only remaining community that produces alms bowls through traditional methods. 

 


6. Takraw Lod Huang: A traditional ball-game created by Luang Mongkonman.
