Chiang Mai has recently received the 2019 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation programme.

Kaomai Estate 1955 Project, which was erected in San Pa Tong district of Chiang Mai province has recently received the 2019 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation programme, in the category of New Design Heritag. This is the first time for Thailand that a private project has received the award. The Cultural Heritage Conservation programme award recognises the efforts of private individuals and organizations that have successfully conserved structures and buildings of heritage value in the region. The Kaomai Estate 1955 project is a presentation of Kaomai Lanna Resort in a different perspective, featuring a café which has been renovated from an old tobacco barn, an amphitheater for outdoor recreational purposes and heritage museum.
