Artists from around the world are showcasing their works at the 58th International Art Exhibition la Biennale di Venezia

Artists from around the world are showcasing their works at the 58th International Art Exhibition la Biennale di Venezia (Venice Biannale), which is being held from May 11 to November 24 2019. This year, the Thai Pavilion is showcasing the works of three artists: Panya Wijinthanasarn, Somsak Chaotadapong, and Krit Ngamson. Each artwork comes together to express the theme of “The Revolving World”, bringing to life the past stories of Thailand and the West.

Panya Wijinthanasarn’s sculpture “Dragon Fox” transcribes the “lion fox” ideal of past Western leaders into a form of a hybrid beast with unique Thai elements, while Krit Ngamson’s horse sculpture reflects the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism. Meanwhile, Somsak Chaotadapong presents the age-old tragic love tale of Mae Nak Phra Khanong through the piece “Love Story”. Another one of his artworks is a collection of five paintings which tell the story of World War II through the perspective of five war sites in Kanchnaburi Province. These are just some examples of the artworks on display at the Thai pavilion.
After the biennale is over, the artworks will be placed on display at the Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center in Bangkok near the end of this year.
