The Industry Ministry has planned to encourage 11,505 merchants at the Chatuchak Weekend Market to join the e-commerce platform by supplying short-term loans to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The ministry is teaming up with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand (SME Bank) and the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) to materialise this programme, in which Shopee, the online shopping website, has been chosen as a main channel to support the 11,505 merchandisers at the market. Furthermore, the ministry also plans to bring in Chinese and Indian SMEs to take part in a business matching scheme with Thai SMEs owners.
