Tham Luang cave sparks tourism boom in Chiang Rai province

One year on, Tham Luang cave sparks tourism boom in Chiang Rai province. Previously, tourists visiting Chiang Rai amounted to 5,000 a year, but the number has recently jumped to 1.4 million because of the dramatic rescue of the boy soccer team from the Tham Luang cave. The cave will be upgraded to a national park next year. The cave will only be opened to the general public once safety measures are fully in place, and tourists will then be allowed to enter the cave itself. In addition, the rescue mission has caught such international attention that Netflix has announced plans to produce its own original drama based on the event.
