Thai government working on improving access to public services through a new mobile identification verification system

The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) co-signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Department of Provincial Administration, the Department of Land Transport, and the Social Security Office, to jointly develop the “Mobile ID” application, an identification verification system on mobile devices. The system was initially tested on the network system of Advanced Wireless Network Company Limited (AWN) and Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited to facilitate financial transactions. NBTC is now ready to expand the service in this initial testing phase, to encompass public services provided by the three other government agencies. The government hopes that this will help improve accessibility of services to the general public as well as promote the use of digital ID applications in the future. Additionally, it is expected that the system will be perfected so that the public can eventually use Mobile ID to replace traditional ID cards, enabling easier and greater access to public services throughout the country on a secure and advanced online platform.
