The Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University has invented a more efficient and convenient solution to detect the COVID-19  virus, through the use of RT-LAMP technology to test saliva samples. Not only is collecting saliva samples more convenient and pain-free, but the method also yields accurate results in a shorter period of time. On the other hand, nasopharyngeal swabs frequently irritate patients and trigger coughing and sneezing, which significantly increases the risk of virus transmission. To start the test, patients are required to collect their saliva which is then placed in a test tube already filled with a saliva preservative. The test tube will then be sent to a laboratory. Results can be available within 45 minutes and costs five times less than the conventional RT-PCR test. The RT-LAMP test kits will be further developed and prepared for the purpose of aiding the government in its continuing fight against the virus. The goal is to have 50,000 units delivered to the government by next week.
