2 Thais won the Swift Student Challenge

2 Thais have won the Swift Student Challenge, having an opportunity to join the Apple 2020 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC20) for free. Of all 350 student form 41 countries, the winner were chosen based on their original Swift playground submission, in which all participants were required to create an interactive scene that can be experienced within three minutes. Porjai Rangsri, one of the Thai winners, is a tenth grade student in Varee Chiangmai School who has been interested in technology since 9 years old. HappHear, her application, was created to help people with communication disabilities in emergency cases, such as, disaster, health problems, or need-for-help situations. In this app are many icons substituted for the situations, and, when pressed on, the sound will come out to reach adjacent people for help. The idea of the app, she said, came up when she went to a convenient store where a disabled cashier was struggling with calculation and communication. She also aims to improve the application with more features in the future. For Poom Penghiran, 22, who just graduated from the Department of Computer Science, Assumption University, his inspiration came from the university registration system. He found the difficulties in planning process - searching for the subjects, grouping, and jotting them down on separate spreadsheet – which took a lot of time and effort. Student life can be easier with his application, which allows students to fill up the subjects and group details, and, after that, all possible schedule will be calculated and shown up for consideration. By applying algorithm adapted from “depth first search”, the application provides a rapid, accurate calculation. Furthermore, he plans to develop health solutions for Thai people in the future. The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2020, held by one of the tech giants, Apple Inc., is a global community of 23 million developers joining through the Apple Developer app and the Apple Developer website to develop coding skills, share experiences, and connect with one another.
