The production and development of boats powered by electricity

On 25 June 2020, the Marine Department, together with the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Banpu Next Co., Ltd., and Sakun C Innovation Co., Ltd., signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the production and development of boats powered by electricity, to enhance safety in water transportation, as well as promote maritime industry and increase competitiveness in the global market. The prototype boat will be available on 5 August 2020 and is mostly, made of aluminum. The prototype takes only 2 months to assemble, compared to a year if made from wood. Aluminum is also more durable and has lower maintenance costs. The boat also conserves energy while being environmentally friendly. Furthermore, the NSTDA has recently given approval to set up the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), to run the project, and conduct further research and development.
