Thailand's first robot to assist surgeons in brain surgery

The Medical Services Department under the Thai Ministry of Public Health on Thursday unveiled the country's first robot to assist surgeons in brain surgery on patients afflicted with epilepsy. The robot, which is developed by the department's Prasat Neurological Institute, is capable of pinpointing the areas in the brain on which to operate with precision and can shorten the time in surgery from the usual 8-10 hours to about six hours. Also, the robot can assist in surgery of other brain diseases or disorders, such as Parkinson's.
